What to know about United

They collect you free of charge from the airport or the cruise terminal and drop you back at Hato for free. Pickups west of Grote Berg cost $25.
Best for: cruise passengers, Otrobanda and Pietermaai stays, and drivers aged 21 or 22 who can cover the larger deposit. Not for: groups. The largest vehicle is a compact SUV.
Age, deposit and insurance
The standard minimum age is 23 with a $500 deposit. Renting at 21 or 22 is possible with all-risk insurance and a $1,000 deposit. Bring a valid license and a passport.
Cars go out with all-risk insurance and a full tank. The deposit is refunded automatically once the car comes back in order. Credit card is the easiest way to place it.
An extra driver costs $8/day and a baby or child seat $5/day.
The fleet and prices
Six classes: Economy Basic Manual, Economy, Economy Plus, Compact Car, Intermediate and Compact SUV.
In our checks, the Economy Basic Manual came to $210 for a 7-day rental in early November. That was the cheapest week of any car at any of the fifteen agencies we compare. It is a manual, so check you are comfortable with a stick shift.
The automatic Economy was $245, Economy Plus $280, Compact $315, Intermediate $385 and Compact SUV $455 for the same week.
